Back to listening to Jurassic Park this evening (audiobook). I'd argue that Crichton's 2 insert characters are: Ian Malcolm and Genero (the lawyer). The lawyer in the book is not the craven slimey asshole from the movie. THAT was the PR guy who bailed on the kids.

Ah! That I didn't know. I presumed it was Crichton, esp. since Ian takes a nasty dig at early climate change issues.

(Though the dig was correct which is worrying about the EARTH was a dumb focus. But he doesn't follow through with 'because the planet will go on, it's us who're fucked' because I think it janks into rants about how scientists don't clean up dig sites /eyeroll

A lot of Malcolm's ranting in this book is very 90s and reminds me powerfully of Daniel Quinn's Ishmael, which I was embarrassingly into as a teen

In my mind it falls into the category of "You're not wrong, Walter, you're just an asshole"
