Back to listening to Jurassic Park this evening (audiobook). I'd argue that Crichton's 2 insert characters are: Ian Malcolm and Genero (the lawyer). The lawyer in the book is not the craven slimey asshole from the movie. THAT was the PR guy who bailed on the kids.

Ah! That I didn't know. I presumed it was Crichton, esp. since Ian takes a nasty dig at early climate change issues.

(Though the dig was correct which is worrying about the EARTH was a dumb focus. But he doesn't follow through with 'because the planet will go on, it's us who're fucked' because I think it janks into rants about how scientists don't clean up dig sites /eyeroll

Ah okay he says it was Heinz Pagels in the afterword ...Who, at a glance, doesn't seem to be very similar to Malcolm in personality or politics but inspiration can take you weird directions

thank you again (as always) for embiggening my world. I used to have a copy of this book but I don't currently and I'm loathe to shell out the $10 for the ebook when there's other books in the world :D
