I do find this fascinating in a sick way I mean obviously these people believe whatever is convenient for them to believe in the moment But also the idea that filiality is a one-way obligation is very common in the right wing of different cultures

I don't actually believe that you owe it to anyone to protect them no matter how bad the acts they commit are But *if you did* it would have to be a fucking two-way street What kind of asshole thinks they can expect loyalty from someone they kicked out of the house

Never seems to occur to these people that maybe it's the parents who have the shitty ideology (and the inability to stop making it the center of conversation) that drives people away

"Your parent kept a roof over your head, you owe them!!" Actually I worked my ass off for nothing because my dad took 95% of my money to pay 65% of the rent on the house so he could mess around with a passion project that never went anywhere He owes me

I’ve been seeing more and more how rightwing ideology of the centrality of “family” is used to justify their bigotry. The book Mothers of Massive Resistance talks about how white women in the south made their appeals against integration as a violation of their rights as mothers.
