He doubled down *specifically* on the six hours *repeatedly* though ("That's just the normal time between lunch and dinner!")

Having heard him on a few podcasts, I would always assume it’s a bit and he’s a crank for cranks sake at times. I think this story missed the mark but I think it was meant for his followers who are into this stuff.

Well, okay, he failed to read the room It happens Grownups who literally make their living in media should be aware of that risk

All he had to do was say "okay, I exaggerated - she didn't cry, it wasn't 6 hours, and there was other food in the house." But he chose all this rather than admit he exaggerated his self-aggrandizing story.

Yeah I mean that's literally what got me thinking about it again in the first place I don't know that playing Armchair Publicist and going "How would I deal with this shitstorm if it were me" is necessarily a productive question at times like this but it's a common one

Like just from a purely Machiavellian, selfish, profiteering standpoint if you work in media and you've just seen like the fourth or fifth high-profile Twitter celeb who has no idea who you are angrily QTing and dunking on you... it's time to put up the white flag

Like just from an *ethical* perspective If it's a wholly made-up story, then when you've got like 10,000 people saying they're in tears or furious because the story happened Regardless of how silly you think they're being, it's time to say "Okay this didn't happen"

I'm trying to address this particular question as "neutrally" as possible If I did some kind of bit where I kept telling this tall tale about how I killed a guy in self-defense once and to me the whole joke is the silliness of believing I'm capable of such a thing

If I suddenly found out tons of people were freaking out like "Arthur you just killed someone ten years ago and you don't even care? I thought I knew you" I would be such an asshole to stay "committed"

Even if I got lost in some ridiculous argument about how the fictional me was morally justified in killing that guy It would be a stupid hill to die on I'm the asshole for making people feel real emotions about something fake for no good reason
