He could make a ton of this smoke, though not all of it, dissipate rapidly if he just came out and said "Okay this was a bit, I was trying to be funny and colorful, I would never *actually* delay eating by six hours, in real life it was more like forty-five minutes"

Like just from a purely Machiavellian, selfish, profiteering standpoint if you work in media and you've just seen like the fourth or fifth high-profile Twitter celeb who has no idea who you are angrily QTing and dunking on you... it's time to put up the white flag

Like just from an *ethical* perspective If it's a wholly made-up story, then when you've got like 10,000 people saying they're in tears or furious because the story happened Regardless of how silly you think they're being, it's time to say "Okay this didn't happen"
