Anyway the funny thing to me personally about the debate over whether Scots or Ukrainian or other "regional dialects" are "real languages" is how my dad converted to being a hardcore Chinese nationalist when I was in high school and started saying Taiwanese "isn't a language"

Anyway it's just funny seeing nationalists of different imperialist nations defending each other, in order to strive for some kind of ideological consistency The whole "independence question" is an *extremely* volatile third rail among my Taiwan relatives

when i lived in Minneapolis for a couple years, one thing i found notable was that a lot of official government notices were printed in several languages, including Hmong and Somali. Some governments care about their constituents!
