I hate Batman in scenarios where oh no the fate of the city/world/whatever rests in his hands, True Detective but with Batman would be so much cooler

Now I'm imagining Batman on Law & Order alongside Jerry Orbach.

In the criminal justice system, the people are represented by two separate yet equally important groups: the police, who investigate crime, and the guys who dress up as bats and beat up the offenders. These are their stories.

Yes, but someone should explain this to the comics people too.

The "world's greatest detective" is an aspect of Batman that hasn't been emphasized much in the films. Having a bunch of sophisticated forensic equipment & computer databases in his Batcave for identifying suspects is about as close as we get, usually.

Episodic could work. Season-long arcs a la Mindhunter or (shudders a little) Dexter could be effective in the right hands. Would be good to see the protagonist of Detective Comics you know, detecting.

Funny how people "forget" that Batman works better in episodic form despite the amount of praise heaped on thispic.twitter.com/12H3VBIsLM

As much as I loved the campy fun of the "Brave and the Bold" cartoon... they had Batman in a fist fight with DARKSEID and he somehow was not instantly liquidated by the God of evil clapping his hands. Batman should be CSI with ninja fights. That is it.pic.twitter.com/yXzu1wKZua

in some settings, gods derive power from their worshippers this is more or less true of superheroes: they derive power from their popularity bats is an unpowered detective but he can punch out gods because he's extremely popular
-
Batman is so popular that as a character he is welcome in literally any story of any genre in any setting. Gritty story of Batman fighting muggers? Fantastical story of Batman fighting gods? Batman in the Old West? Pride and Prejudice and Batman?
