We used to think vaccines had to take years, now we know it can take 11 months. Why shouldn’t we try to make the process go even faster? Prepared and pre-tested technology, manufacturing and logistics investment, challenge trials, and less red tape. It’s all possible.

Why do I get the feeling Matt here doesn't understand part of why it was so fast was that gov money removed all risk. Normally companies don't want to move immediately to the next phase without reviewing the data. Trials are expensive and if the data they halt development.

Also really important here is that companies could run the different phases concurrently and that recruitment of participants was rapid. These kinds of things just don't happen without an emergency.

I’m a little stumped on this because his bio makes me think he knows more than me on this issue. But “why does a new drug take so long?” is an old Q easily answered.
