Sometimes I wonder what would happen if "spoiler culture" became a thing for real events Like sports "Don't tell me who won the World Series, I was working and I have it all taped to watch when I get a chance"

I've heard that a reasonable number of times, actually Possibly because the big matches are generally played overnight for my timezone (Australia)

I believe that was a premise of an episode of How I Met Your Mother, in which the friends miss the Super Bowl for a funeral and decree they're going to watch it together the next day, attempting to avoid "spoilers" the entire day. They shockingly fail miserably.

It's been a sitcom premise for a long time; it was used in an episode of Whatever Happened To The Likely Lads? in 1973.

Haven't you seen "Fever Pitch" with @jimmyfallon and @DrewBarrymore ? She has to cover his ears so he doesn't hear Red Sox results until he can watch the replay at home. Great movie!

The closest consistent one I can think of in regards to sports would be the Olympics when it is not being held in a roughly US friendly time zone. The first airing but post result showings in the US tend to have everyone in the commentary team not give spoilers if memory serves.

You mean this isn't a thing? With all the DVR options available now, I'd suspect a lot of people watch games after they've been played and don't want that experience spoiled.

Well, we don't have a "culture" of calling people assholes if they talk about the results of the Super Bowl on Twitter immediately after the Super Bowl

This has been a thing almost my entire life. Frasier did a joke about Martin trying not to be spoiled about a game in an early season
