Discussing student loan forgiveness. Part of the hesitance from some parties over forgiving a higher amount of debt is that at some point you're basically forgiving grad school loans, so it's perceived as mainly helping higher income folks.

Uh...forgiving grad school loans is spectacular for the low income, what are they on? As a teacher with a graduate degree, I'm dying.

Somehow I have missed the whole "dentists are ripoffs" thing until now? I've had zero problems with my dentist except for the time they sent my bill to my parents by mistake.

the grain of truth in this silly discourse is that how your teeth look is intertwined with all sorts of classism and oppressive beauty standards, and the dental profession has kind of intentionally not clarified a line between what's "medical" versus "cosmetic"

Depends on the dentist. If this is a Paul Gosar story I am down for it

Yglesias has pointed out that six figure student loan debt is mostly doctors, lawyers, dentists and so on, and so default rates among them are quite low (bc they make good money) compared with “some college, no degree” who default at v high rates even with relatively small debt

Just more clueless Yglesias contrarianism leading to pointless discourse detours because he wants attention.
