I think a lot about negotiations and the Overton Window and anchoring I'm in hindsight really fucking mad that we started "lockdown season" with something that was already an unsafe compromise riddled with holes and then *compromised with the compromise* as people got restless

That's where the Democrats go wrong most IMO. There's no way in hell Republicans will let the Democrats first proposal fly. It could be their preferred position and they'd shoot it down just for a win. They need to dream big from the start.

The thing about this disease is if you actually did something "crazy and illegal and unconstitutional", you'd only have to keep it in place for 14 days to gain most of the benefit from it Let the court overturn it in time and force you down to a compromise, every day counts

This is the whole thing about exponential growth that drives me crazy If the case rate in any US state right now went back down to the level it was when they first declared it a "crisis", everyone would be fucking celebrating, it would be a miracle
