Rowling's transformation from universally beloved children's author to leader of a hate movement is one of the most despicable uses of celebrity since Charles Lindbergh.

Rowling's books were never that great, and there were some warning signs in terms of unexamined bigotry in those books (goblins, house elves, etc.)

the troll. Quirrell was less deliberate and less casual whereas it's clearly viewed as totally okay to murder a troll because it's a "lesser" race

this is unfortunately pretty common in fantasy literature. still shitty though.

Yeah, to some extent, they can't even figure out exactly what a troll is supposed to be. It appears to be the only one in the world, and it's...semisentient? It could be like a chimp got it, but it can kinda talk, right?

I got the impression it's more of a beast than a person but Potterverse doesn't have a concrete bestiary that makes sense; when Rowling tried to do so she had like the worst mixture of that whole "random arcane esoterica! magic and whimsy!" approach we've discussed and mundanity.

If something is wearing pants you probably shouldn't be allowed to murder it

Well, we don't know that they put the pants on themselves, as opposed to the humans putting pants on them for decency's sake because they were going to be deployed to a school full of children They do obviously use tools (clubs) though
