Techbros are by a significant degree more likely to positively "believe in aliens" than the gen pop so this is already just kind of ridiculoushttps://twitter.com/NathanJRobinson/status/1340825130046529537 …

I think this is why I see a lot of Silicon Valley types casting doubt on the existence of aliens. You might expect these space-loving rationalists to be into aliens, but aliens would actually prove that they are part of a primitive society rather than an advanced, unique one.

The main reason "scientific, rationalist" people disbelieve in aliens is... there is no positive evidence for their existence whatsoever, so anything you could say about it is pure speculation That's it Any ideological shit you want to say about it comes on top of that

Data we have is from Earth. Probability from that suggests life exists throughout the universe, but intelligent technological is vanishing rare and may be unique.

I actually had an astronomy class at UT called "Extraterrestrial Life." There's actually an equation to calculate the number of planets with life on them (which you probably already know.) Great class. Professor Benedict. Very fun.

I mean, the simplicity of basic carbon life almost guarantees it, specifically, has happened elsewhere. The issue is people hearing life and interpreting "sapient" or "overlapping in spacetime w earth life". We may already have passed our eye over a planet w say, lizards...
