Arthur Chu Retweeted Mona Simpsons’s Girlfriend

The idea that JKR's stupid essay was worthy of a fucking award - not because the award givers agree with her, oh no, but because of the *quality of the writing* - is legitimately gaslighting It's worse than people who thought the Harry Potter books were the new Shakespearehttps://twitter.com/NelllyRose/status/1341049054139179011 …

So the BBC prevented its staff from attending trans pride events because it would be deemed “political” and controversial, but have given JK Rowling an award commemorating the “bravery” of her hate speech. Our state broadcaster is institutionally transphobic. pic.twitter.com/TKr68K14cq

It's like people praising Magdalen Berns as some great cutting satirical wit, the second coming of Dorothy Parker, for gems like "Oh, fuck off, you wanker" and "You ARE blackface actors"

Fine let's get into it If you knew nothing about what Powell was talking about, you might admire how his sentence conveys rhetorical strength, the sound of someone moved to act out of duty Rowling's sentence, if you delete the operative words, is still a mealy-mouthed dodgepic.twitter.com/RX8YDRC1la

It's not a good sentence or a powerful sentence, it's the sentence of a weaselly coward You could plug it into any number of weaselly cowards' cowardly speeches "I want Iraqis to be safe. At the same time, I do not want to make Americans less safe" It's bullshit

Who the fuck thinks this is inspiring or stirring The only way you could find her shit convincing is if you already just like her as a person and instantly feel sympathy for how she's been "relentlessly attacked" Cis Women's Tears

Ftr it’s just an editor’s roundup of ‘best writing of the year’ that he calls an award for some reason. Still shitty though!

I apply the Hitler rule to situations like this, or Bull Connor, if one is squeamish about Poe’s Law. If Bull Connor wrote a really good essay about segregation, would we be expected to be nice to him and wring our hand about his bravery in the face of online abuse?

Exactly! I gave up reading it halfway through, not because of the rampant bigotry, but because it was terribly written rampant bigotry. She should have at least had the decency to not insult our intelligence and make her screed coherent.

HP was warmed over Roald Dahl. Never liked the writing though the stories did make for fantastic movie adaptations.
