The Democrats believe it is their responsibility to govern according to the will of the entire American populace. The GOP does not believe this.

I think when one party is dedicated to abandoning democratic governance and creating authoritarian one party rule, the other party naturally feels their most important job is to thwart that, and that leads to desperately avoiding anything that might make anyone mad for any reason

I'm noticing that it's not purely media double standards either part of this is just reflecting what party influencers want to hear about themselves back at them and at the public and that's faaaaaar worse for Democrats than Republicans in immediate, active terms.

Democratic leadership want to be compromising statesmen , Republicans want to rule. Only 1 of these things is possible unilaterally.
