This has been true for centuries at this point and it's consistent across the political spectrum. You can look back at late 19th century socialists/anarchists who have the most deluded ideas about how actual family farming works (spoiler: it sucks now and it sucked more then)

The real value of the farm is the capital, operating it for income sucks and you need farm labour if you want to leave for more than like a day tops. This makes it incredibly easy to consolidate for large companies with a bit of patience, and gives them terrible incentives.
