I did not ask how people would feel if Reylo were gay because the answer to that question is already obvious

I would feel really, really good about it. Definitely spices up the slash pairing.
Not that... not that I would... uh...

The story would be a lot worse if Ren was a girl who died so Rey could live to become a Skywalker.

Ren would be a mary sue for being able to freeze a blaster bolt. No one would care that Rey could do everything because there's in film explanations/hand waving.
-
On the plus(?) side people would be way more accepting of the idea that there was sexual tension between them.

Seriously, though, it would feed almost too neatly into the trope of "bad girl with serious daddy issues" Elektra syndrome, with the good guy trying to "save" her from her evil. I like the Sienkewitz Elektra, all other versions begone.pic.twitter.com/rcGr0N3PZI

I think ‘strong female lead’ is actually still less of a trope than ‘evil female corporate bitch’, so I’m gonna say the former was the better option in terms of addressing misogynistic tropes. Plus I think kylo’s character was lacking in a variety of ways.

They both fell into heavy tropes regardless, but kylo’s was ‘loner angst teen driven to rage’, with a side of ‘mildly abusive backstory?’ His character only makes sense as fanboy self-insertion, and his redemption arc rings tremendously hollow.
