It's so fucking hilarious They actually made back the development cost of the game *before the game shipped*, just on the strength of preorder sales The most embarrassing AAA launch failure of their generation and they were protected from taking a loss before launch

I've basically switched to a "look what i found on the ground" approach to video games — just playing whatever random shit crosses my awareness due to some personal connection, months after it comes out — and i've never been happier

AC Valhalla is the first game I've played in the past few years that was less than 3 years old when I started it. I also knew it would have bugs and I don't care that much

This is why I've always cringed at the idea of "hype". It isn't that I'm so jaded to look down on excitement, but it is essentially a feature at this point for people to get really angry when reality doesn't meet their hyped up version of the thing.

And what's even more bizzare about this would be the fact that CDPR's other releases haven't been always the most polished. The Witcher 2 (or maybe the first) had a notoriously screwy tutorial among other things.
