Hot take: bypassing parents is good, actually. Many parents have bad or dangerous ideas and the children’s safety depends on their having a wider community to turn to.

I say this as a person who has a good relationship with my parents. Being exposed to viewpoints that conflicted with theirs didn’t turn me against them and gave me the confidence to recognize when my parents were right about things, as well as when they erred.
