Yeah, Jonathan is related to Nathan, I think.

"Nathan" is "he gives" and "Jonathan" is specifically "God gives", like "John" is "God is gracious" and "Joshua" is "God saves" The "Jo-" particle is the shortening of YHWH for God's name, like the "jah" in "Hallelujah" ("Praise YHWH")

Same name, different form, I think. "El" is a name for God like "Jo/Jah," although I don't know the grammatical reason to have it at the end.

Yeah "El" is just the word "god" as opposed to YHWH being the special name God revealed to Moses on Mt. Sinai "Elohim" means "the gods", when Muslims call God "Allah" ("The God") it's their way of saying naming him at all is blasphemy

Anyway I don't know that there's a specific meaning in Hebrew of putting the noun before or after the verb, I looked it up and it says it's the same thing (and "Elnathan" is a rare variant of "Nathaniel")

It may be dialect, I'm not sure. The text is assembled from multiple varieties of Hebrew and Aramaic, so there's some muddling. You also see some -baal versions, which is literally 'lord,' and refers to God in some contexts, but usually ends up as a pagan god "baal"

When it's a pagan god, there's usually another word attached, like "Baal Hadad" and "Baal Hammon." And of course, Baal Zebub, or Beelzebub: the lord of the flies.

Right, which comes from an actual god named Baal Zebul, Lord of the Manor, and then was turned into a mean pun And like many random puns survived into Christian mythology as this whole evocative thing
