My deadname was like that, a name mostly commonly occurring as a short nickname, but it was just my name, and I constantly had to deal with people using the long version Despite the "short" version that was my legal name being *a book of the Bible*

I almost never hear people using the long version of your deadname, I don't even think of them as the same name

It was CONSTANT. Teachers and stuff, despite having a roster and all, would insist I was the longer version (I dunno why I'm coy about the name, it's out there, there's always just the chance of one stalker who doesn't know it yet deciding they're not going to stop saying it)

But it was equivalent to being named "John" and having people think it was somehow more respectful to call you "Jonathan" all the time People get my name right more since I transitioned

John and Jonathan are in fact different names, the H in John is because it's short for Yohanan (which is why in German it's "Johannes" and gets shortened to "Hans")

Yeah, Jonathan is related to Nathan, I think.

"Nathan" is "he gives" and "Jonathan" is specifically "God gives", like "John" is "God is gracious" and "Joshua" is "God saves" The "Jo-" particle is the shortening of YHWH for God's name, like the "jah" in "Hallelujah" ("Praise YHWH")

Same name, different form, I think. "El" is a name for God like "Jo/Jah," although I don't know the grammatical reason to have it at the end.

Yeah "El" is just the word "god" as opposed to YHWH being the special name God revealed to Moses on Mt. Sinai "Elohim" means "the gods", when Muslims call God "Allah" ("The God") it's their way of saying naming him at all is blasphemy

Anyway I don't know that there's a specific meaning in Hebrew of putting the noun before or after the verb, I looked it up and it says it's the same thing (and "Elnathan" is a rare variant of "Nathaniel")

It may be dialect, I'm not sure. The text is assembled from multiple varieties of Hebrew and Aramaic, so there's some muddling. You also see some -baal versions, which is literally 'lord,' and refers to God in some contexts, but usually ends up as a pagan god "baal"

When it's a pagan god, there's usually another word attached, like "Baal Hadad" and "Baal Hammon." And of course, Baal Zebub, or Beelzebub: the lord of the flies.

Hebrew has the noun-verb flipped from what's common in English usually

Also in Hebrew the verbs are gendered - so a name like 'El-Natan' is masculine
