Jesus advocated for leaving biological family if they held one back from their spiritual family. "Pointing to his disciples, Jesus said, “Here are my mother and my brothers. For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.” etc etc

Yeah, which is also something that I think Christian philosophers (in particular) got pretty good at confronting for a while there.

It's funny how this stuff evolves Confucius' original stuff as transmitted to us by Mencius is very abstract, very much saying if you just meditate and work on yourself and try to be a *good person* this stuff will eventually fall into place for you, even if it takes a long time

So-called "Neo-"Confucianism was going "Okay fuck it this isn't working, let's sit down and actually write a gigantic book of universal rules everyone has to follow" Sort of like Thomas Aquinas' quest to turn the simple teachings of Jesus into this giant tome

This is why a lot of modern (esp'ly Protestant) Christians really miss the point of Judaism as it evolved beyond the 2nd Temple (where they think it stopped). "Love One Another" is great, but when does it stop being "Love" for one of the parties?

"Legalism" is blasted as this harsh, punitive system by Christians trying to "get back to the Original Jesus Teachings" but it's overall a method of seeking justice. If ppl are gonna argue over "what God means by this" I'd rather have all arguments redacted on paper
