Wow and so the thing is he doesn't physically attack the burglars because the one within reach is a young woman and it feels wrong And this makes everyone in his life lose respect for him and he's filled with rage and guilt and has to make up for it That's... layers

FTR I am of the opinion that risking human life and limb over property is indeed not worth it, especially if you're well-off enough that insurance can cover the financial loss, and making it a matter of honor is just more dumb toxic shit that ruins the world

(Our house was robbed when I was a kid The cops said it was probably a teenage girl who did it, or a group that contained a teen girl, based on some of the random shit that was taken from my mom and sister's room along with the obvious valuables)

(My dad was fucking FURIOUS over it and absolutely did feel emasculated and humiliated and all that shit, even though he not only wasn't home but wasn't in town at the time And he absolutely did blame my mom for "letting it happen" It got really ugly)

That means your house was burgled, not robbed. A robbery is a theft accomplished by force or threat of force from the person or presence of another

Also the word "robbed" and also the word "burglary" are older than their specific definitions in American law, and just because dude's handle is "law nerd" doesn't mean he should be an asshole who insists that common usage = legal usage.

It's not really any different than the terves insisting that "rape involves a penis!!!" because of vagaries of UK law that don't apply to the US (or many other countries). Words have multiple meanings! Terms of art are not common understandings!

I wasn't robbed, the house was robbed The house was approached with violent intent and demanded to surrender its possessions and did so without resisting
