So they combined the idea of John Wick and A History of Violence in a way that made both of them worse (Or, really, this is the "alpha male protects his castle" fantasy that both John Wick and AHoV are better than because they subvert it in different ways)https://twitter.com/NobodyMovie/status/1337064543873359874 …

FTR I am of the opinion that risking human life and limb over property is indeed not worth it, especially if you're well-off enough that insurance can cover the financial loss, and making it a matter of honor is just more dumb toxic shit that ruins the world

(Our house was robbed when I was a kid The cops said it was probably a teenage girl who did it, or a group that contained a teen girl, based on some of the random shit that was taken from my mom and sister's room along with the obvious valuables)

(My dad was fucking FURIOUS over it and absolutely did feel emasculated and humiliated and all that shit, even though he not only wasn't home but wasn't in town at the time And he absolutely did blame my mom for "letting it happen" It got really ugly)

(I have personal reasons for really, really disliking this "Stand up for yourself! Have some fucking dignity!" shit in this context, especially when I see it in myself That shit is an electric charge that, if there are no bad guys nearby to discharge into, grounds out elsewhere)

I am close to refusing to watch action movies where the hero will inflict all sorts of trauma but will only directly harm men I can tolerate it if the story "just happens" to work out that way, but it's actually super toxic And John Wick doesn't follow that rule, ftr

IIRC Wick had a rule that he wouldn't take assassination contracts where the target is a woman, but he will definitely fight or kill female assailants (The video game, which isn't canon but is super badass, makes at least 50% of mooks female)

Yes, my reaction to the trailer was that his ferocious efficiency at killing absolutely justified his decision not to attack the burglars at the beginning, because they were clearly outmatched. Very disappointing if the film's message is that he should have gone for it anyway.
