If you don’t get consequences for being inhuman, no matter your class/role/coding, then your entire movement to improve the lot of humanity has already failed.

I didn’t say he shouldn’t face consequences.

Then what is your position here?

I’m saying that a person was able to use their platform to get this person fired, when this and even worse things happen in that industry to people that don’t have a giant platform. That why gig workers need unions so a company can’t just decide who keeps a job based viral tweets

I know a person who was sexually assaulted by an Uber driver but because their tweet didn’t go viral the company did nothing. Is this the most effective way of dealing with things?

We stamp out shitheads where we can, and empower, support and lobby to make it happen more often. If you want Uber Union to solve ALL of the problems and think that will work, well I have this bridge to sell....

How in the HELL does that example make the case. WTFFFFF. One driver got away with a horrible thing so all drivers should get away with bad things because... what?

No they should all be accountable! And having a union would make that happen as well as having the bonus of making drivers not live in abject poverty!

And your genius avatar to support that cause is the one driver fired for dropping a person on the side of the road in a wheelchair. You have... strange strategic priorities

There are 100s of people sexually assaulted each year by Uber drivers but because you didn’t see their viral tweet I guess that doesn’t matter.

Is it your experience that unions always do a better job of "policing their own" than management or external institutions Because sometimes that may be true but there are many obvious cases where it isn't (teacher's unions going to bat for a member who committed assault)

no but management is pretty much always at cross purposes so it doesnt matter. Even that settlement you mention neglects to resolve the fact that uber heavily disincentivises accommodations for the disabled it just shifts all of the burden onto the workers.

As I said when this first came up, obviously everything about Uber would be better if drivers had company-owned vehicles or, failing that, Uber provided compensation for cleaning and interior maintenance as a matter of course
