I feel like people tend to forget that part of what a union is.

I’m literally a card carrying union member.

Then you should realize a union would have changed not a damn thing.

It really would have. He would have been required to have his van wheelchair compliant so this would never have happened in the first place and neither one of us would know this ride even took place.

Clearly this is in bad faith but I'm gonna say this anyway. Being required to accommodate wheelchairs has nothing to do with being in a union. He was legally required to regardless, and his vehicle was capable of accommodating the chair in question, he just refused to.

This happened because, and only because, the driver's deliberate decision to do so. And union or no union the response to doing such a thing, is you're fired for refusing to do your job.

Well he said he couldn’t fit the wheelchair. I don’t know whether that’s true or not, but a union would require him to have a wheelchair accessible ride so he wouldn’t have been able to use that. Furthermore if he for some reason tried, you could complain to the board

He did not say that, and if he said that he would be lying, because his car, like most cars, has a trunk in which you can fold up a wheelchair Someone who did not have trunk space would have a difficult time driving for Uber, where many customers are going to or from the airport

The person in question did not require a WAV with a lift and did not request one The majority of wheelchair users don't, because wheelchair users generally are capable of standing and walking for short periods The misconception that they can't is a massive problem

Didn’t the driver refuse not because of the chair, but because of her service dog? Which is equally shitty and illegal?

Yes Which led a bunch of people to argue that Uber should have a segregated service for drivers who are "okay with dogs" Which is completely and unambiguously illegal under the ADA
