I understand it was inevitable but it still bothers me that the later Scooby-Doo cartoons - including some very high quality ones - have the supernatural be realhttps://twitter.com/AnaMardoll/status/1337391888605835266 …

Y'all like QTs with controversial opinions, so: QT with the name of a sequel/prequel that, regardless of standalone quality, profoundly misunderstood or mangled the themes present in movie(s) preceding it in the franchise.

There are so few stories that bother to address the supernatural without validating it (sure, Scully is a skeptic, but she’s also clearly *wrong* within the context of the X-Files universe) It’s something that made Scooby-Doo special. They’re debunkers, not Ed & Lorraine Warren!

I always liked the idea that a good team of debunkers would have different attitudes toward the phenomenon You've got Velma, who firmly disbelieves and who keeps on insisting on a skeptical worldview to keep everyone else grounded

But you've also got Fred, who's genuinely fascinated by the supernatural and *wants* to believe - which, as long as he's got Velma keeping him honest, makes him a very effective and tireless investigator

And you've got Shaggy, who is actively *terrified* of the paranormal and *doesn't want it to be true* but is afraid it *might be*, as the third pole of the triangle The one who balances out skepticism and fascination with necessary caution

(Whether or not it's real is tangential to whether it's potentially *dangerous* and should be treated with respect)

Daphne is unfortunately a wildcard who kind of bounced around in what she represented in the old show because she was mostly a damsel in distress But when they did characterize her it was as the one who remembered the human factor

Like, whether or not the ghost or the monster is real it's something that impinges on other people's lives and your search for truth has to be balanced with how it affects their world
