In particular because a lot of problems can be solved by "throwing money" at them in ways that don't require you to spend it, just to have it. Having savings that you probably will not need to spend is still an incredible insulator from a lot of problems and concerns.

Not to mention, an insulator from having to spend money on interest on debt because you buy things in cash other people put on credit cards / take out loans for.

It's also grimly hilarious because "poverty" is definitely a problem you can solve by throwing money at it. It's the problem of literally "not enough money to survive in this place." People tie themselves in knots to say it's something else like the bad character of the poor.
