Cast-iron skillets aren't even expensive, they're like $20 and will probably last orders of magnitude longer than any lightweight nonstick pan at the same price point They tend to say this because they take more effort to take care of, but it's really not that big a dealhttps://twitter.com/courtenlow/status/1336850642346840066 …

(I do think that this wave of emphasis on making things compact and lightweight that most people, even poor people in small apartments, don't have to pick up and move very much very often was kind of just a consumerism scam to sell more shit)

And you can actually bake in cast iron. If you have a cast iron pot with a lid you can bury it under hot coals.

Cast iron is popular camp cookware. the weight is an issue, but the durability is amazing and it holds up well to a hot fire where you don't have precise control over temperatures.

I have a teensy cast iron skillet that can fit a couple eggs in it and it weighs about as much as a regular sized teflon skillet. If I'm just prepping for myself, it's plenty enough.

I had some trouble maneuvering my cast iron skillets for a while after I broke my elbow almost two years ago, and I assume people with arthritis and other conditions like that will have the same problem. The weight can absolutely be an issue.

Don’t get me wrong. I love my cast iron skillets and use them daily. But they have drawbacks for some people. I wouldn’t want to use them if I were cooking for a living because they’d wear me out pretty quickly.

You can clean it with sand. Rinse it out before you cook.

The greater weight can also be an issue for someone like me, with hypermobile wrists and hands. Heavier cookware is generally painful or impossible to cook with for me

That's fair and valid, and a shame because it's very difficult to engineer around (Teflon was their attempt to do so, but the thing that makes cast iron specifically better than Teflon is the higher amount of thermal mass)
