Substitute 'modern concept' then, it's what I mean.

No one really gives all that much of a shit about the complex metaphysics here, we're just saying you can be a woman and have a penis Not that different from the 30s

Wrong then and wrong now. I'd be deeply surprised by seeing that from that era too.

Because it's not that compelling? Sorry you know the truth of it but the record has been completely expunged? If you're right it's a bind, but if you're wrong...

Of course it wasn't completely expunged, but it was an act of terror intended to shift public opinion and people's sense of what was "normal", and it worked Hence people treating Harry Benjamin "inventing transsexuality" after working with Kinsey in the 50s like a big shock

But Benjamin was one of Hirschfeld's colleagues who'd fled to the US and was open about the fact that he was building on Hirschfeld's ideas None of this is secret or truly lost knowledge, a lot if it is on the fucking Internet, just driven out of respectable conversation

I sincerely doubt the horrors of Nazi Germany have anything to do with this robust and nigh universal understanding of sex and the related terms.

They were very clearly built on a foundation of wanting to live in a world where men are real men and women are real women and everyone knows what that means And the search for someone to blame for the erosion of these categories eventually becoming murderous

So inaccurate sexist stereotypes- reliant upon the simple understanding of sex yes, but diverging from reality after that point. That is where they'd also diverge from my own beliefs. Ah how the words twist in the wind with you.

Well no, caring a lot about the split between "man" and "woman" is the issue, arguing about whether their view of it was "inaccurate stereotypes" but yours is "an accurate understanding" is the part that's just twisting words in the wind
