I'd hazard a guess that the modern concept of transgender wasn't around then. Surely the word wasn't? Interesting to know they did that, makes sense they'd go after non-conforming sexuality, the bastards. Just has nothing to do with me, my beliefs or this debate.

The modern concept of transgender has been around a lot longer than most people think, because the Nazis and those like them burner most of the research and literature done on them up to that time and set the public's knowledge of the issue back decades.

Also just like gravity existed before Newton, trans people have been around since long before the modern concept of transgender.

I disagree. People are defining themselves by an ideology. It's disingenuous to ascribe adherence to that ideology before it existed. Striking similarities certainly, but the same phenomenon was explained under a prior ideology. Such as the prior AND current one I hold.

Nothing I said mentioned an ideology.

No one really gives all that much of a shit about the complex metaphysics here, we're just saying you can be a woman and have a penis Not that different from the 30s

Wrong then and wrong now. I'd be deeply surprised by seeing that from that era too.

Because it's not that compelling? Sorry you know the truth of it but the record has been completely expunged? If you're right it's a bind, but if you're wrong...

Of course it wasn't completely expunged, but it was an act of terror intended to shift public opinion and people's sense of what was "normal", and it worked Hence people treating Harry Benjamin "inventing transsexuality" after working with Kinsey in the 50s like a big shock

But Benjamin was one of Hirschfeld's colleagues who'd fled to the US and was open about the fact that he was building on Hirschfeld's ideas None of this is secret or truly lost knowledge, a lot if it is on the fucking Internet, just driven out of respectable conversation
