I think that's right. the whole selling point is in fact royalty...but in space!

Worth pointing out that originally "space opera" was an insult, reviewers saw it as a straightforwardly negative thing "This story has no reason to be in space, you just reskinned it to sell it in a science fiction marketplace"

It only became a positive thing in the 60s when Lester del Rey explicitly tried to reclaim it Samuel Delany wrote this whole highfalutin "defense of space opera" as a companion to Empire Star (which prominently features a space princess)
