I agree we have different ideas of what “race” does and possibly should mean: when I say race I’m referring to any type of ethnic classification system, whether benign, hostile, or even theoretical. My point is that there are a lot of different ways to classify and divide “race”

The genuinely "idle rich" are mostly a thing of the past That's one notable feature about the culture in which we now live, it's normative for everyone to have some kind of job, rich people culture places great emphasis on "business", on literally staying busy

So it's very common for rich people to have $20 million and to also have some job they got because of the $20 million Sometimes the job is pure bullshit, sometimes it isn't - they might actually work really hard at the office Does it make them not "capitalists"

You’re neither a worker or capitalist in that situation. Work would require you to do labor and capital would require interest on your wealth. Your no different than a guy blowing his paycheck at a bar, just for years at a time instead of hours.

Okay so what if I did put my money on investments but the investments are generally bad I bought $10 million in stock but while the stock hasn't collapsed it's also never paid dividends and I pay my bills by slowly selling it

no and if none of that money is invested you wouldn't really be part of the capitalist class either, but thats a pretty blatant edge case.
-
My point is I don't think it matters Sitting on a pile of cash you did nothing to earn is still capitalist A pile of dollar bills is a pile of "stock certificates", or as Warren Buffett, the surprisingly woke billionaire said, they're a pile of "work orders on other employees"
