Armageddon played on that a bit. And I know I've seen that trope before, but I do struggle to remember another instance. Did Spock knock out Kirk in Wrath of Khan before going into the reactor?

No I believe he subdued Scotty, though. Or at least just didn't tell him. In Into Darkness, Kirk knocked out Scotty to get into the reactor.
