I'm just learning about all of this and it ruins the car chase scenes in the Blues Brothers, because how many people did he endanger doing that?

I don't remember any *safety* issues from The Blues Brothers, but the mall the car chase takes place in -- which had just shut down before they filmed in -- was left in a totally trashed state afterwards, and Landis didn't spend any money cleaning it up

There's also a thing where he had to get a special permit from the FAA to drop the Nazis' car out of the sky because they weren't sure you could predict its descent from that height
