real talk, if Wakanda really existed there's almost no way they wouldn't reject Christianity, culturally or otherwise, as an imperial cult

I guess Bast is pretty real in the MCU, huh? Like Asgard?
-
It's ambiguous because Bast doesn't physically appear, she only speaks through the visions granted by the heart-shaped herb Either she's less real or *more* real than Odin (i.e. an actual spirit, not a powerful but mortal member of an alien species setting himself up as a god)

Zuri, who is the master of ceremonies at the ritual combat for the throne, is the High Priest of Bast The Jabari broke from the other tribes partly because they have their own religion, led by the monkey god Hanuman, who said that Bast's Gift was a test passed by rejecting it
-
Bast is an Egyptian deity irl and Hanuman a Hindu deity, of course But I headcanon that like many other cultures Wakandans have syncretized their deities with other countries', at least for the purpose of explaining their beliefs to outsiders (on the rare occasion it comes up)

i mean, people have had direct interactions with Bast in the comics. The animal deities of Wakanda are real and directly interact with people and the world. I don't know if Christianity would take hold in a place with actual present deities.
