Hammond was trying to cheap out on personnel (even as they "spared no expense" on technological toys) both because they were overstretched on budget and he was terrified of security leaks

True, but that makes Nedry a worse hire; he's really clearly untrustworthy and unreliable. Maybe you just have to imagine that Wayne Knight oversold it a little bit.

It doesn't have to be by much, but he's better as a disgruntled expert than the kind of hot-mess we see running to the vending machine and fucking around with screensavers. Wait, who restocked those vending machines?

Jurassic Park is currently extremely understaffed in the movie because of the storm, remember It's a whole clusterfuck situation where they sent everyone home but then they couldn't reschedule the big shakedown cruise being demanded by Genarro on behalf of the nervous investors

Yeah, good point. There's something here where hurricane forecasting has gotten a lot better since the early 90s, and it would probably have avoided disaster.

I guess the 'investors' are a key detail too, because Hammond isn't self-financing this whole thing. But good lord, so many people are in on it by the point the movie starts, the fact that it's still secret starts to strain credulity as much as the dinosaurs.

The book goes in on this stuff about how a lot of people know about Jurassic Park but don't want to leak it to the public because their own plans depend on one-upping them, like the guy who hired Nedry

Yeah, but the book raises the implausibility level up another notch by establishing right at the start that compies are loose on the mainland.

Yeah and the prologue has a random construction worker dying from a raptor attack who manages to whisper the word "raptor" to the nurse right before he passes

And the doctor goes down this rabbit hole looking up the word "raptor" in Spanish thinking it means "kidnapper" and trying to uncover the conspiracy The company was really lucky that people were so bad at putting shit together

Man it's weird thinking about a world where "raptor" doesn't automatically mean the dinosaur

Yeah, but they were genuinely obscure before that (and I mean, they're also not really real, as presented in the book/movie). On the other hand, he should probably have said "dinosaur"
