It's exactly the same as how "canceling" a celebrity - meaning withholding the opportunity to star in movies or TV shows or other things almost nobody in this country ever gets a chance to do - is "murdering" them, "exiling" them, "locking them in jail and throwing away the key"

People don't even see privilege as privilege That the reason people are so picky about celebrities is that ALMOST NOBODY EVER BECOMES ONE Just like there are millions of books in the world and not one percent of one percent of one percent becomes required reading

Oh wow I feel I missed something. But man, if it's any less depressing and nihilistic and grim than my highschool reading list, then I'm all-fucking-for-it, that shit ruined me on depressing endings forever just due to my overactive empathy and the RELENTLESSNESS.

All quiet on the western front, Of Mice and Men, 1984, The Great Gatsby, The Bluest Eye, Death of a Salesman, back to back to back to back... So bad that my reaction to The Crucible was "THANK GOD! An uplifting ending!"

Every year or so someone throws a public tantrum over the "cancellation" of To Kill A Mockingbird and I always think of this they'll whinge about Lee's progressivism, etc. but they're complaining about white people not getting to control the narrative literally 100% of the time
