Most people's expectation is the second two Cs -- "moving in together" is a huge part of people's image of what "marriage" should be about But idk, I saw a documentary about a married couple who lived in separate apartments and seemed to be doing really well

The main thing I see as useful in marriage is that one spouse can act another's behalf when they are incapacitated. That feels like the bit of the 'we intend to spend our lives together' promise that institutions need to know about. And why it needs to be easy to revoke.
