Frankly this list goes on forever because a movie can streamline the elements to their core and apply them to a new medium, and sometimes even divert/subvert their themes to achieve a loftier goal. The books that can’t be made *better* are the books that maximize their medium...

Like Sound and The Fury, Ulysses, Watchmen. They are the apex of their language and not functional as a blueprint. But even that is dependent on somebody having a take, but in those cases it’s much harder.

The only thing people prove when they say this is that when a movie is better than the book it usually eclipses the book's memory to the point where people aren't aware there even was a book Or when they are they probably have never read it
