It's not like he died several seasons ago and was just forgotten (like has happened to other Supernatural characters) On the other hand, killing him JUST BEFORE THE END obviously is gonna provoke people

Just like his sacrifice technically isn't that bad because he's only dead for the last two episodes anyway but also means that it feels incredibly abrupt and we get no time to actually think about the meaning of it
