It's because the culture pressuring you just wants a constant stream of warm bodies to swell the population to keep the economy chugging along and doesn't give a shit if each of those new generations of humans is more miserable than the lasthttps://twitter.com/Alix_Dreams1/status/1331472645825630209 …

People ask "How can I possibly be *selfish* to put my own needs before the needs of children who don't exist? How is it selfish to think they're better off not existing than existing in a bad situation?" They don't care about you or the kids They speak with the voice of Moloch

Breeding cult mentality doesn't think of the welfare of individual humans, or even the aggregated welfare of humans as a group It's loyalty to an abstraction - to Capital, to the United States, to the Global Economy, to the Human Race, to Putting a Human Footprint on Mars etc

It's a goddamn false god that cares only about its own abstract glory - fecundity enough to fill the universe with human bodies and build shopping malls and parking lots as a monument to its power And its priests see you and your children as only fuel to burn in its belly

(I feel the need to wax effulgent with the purple prose here because, well, the cultural conservative side of this argument has tons of purple prose on their side and they deploy it ruthlessly)

("You come from a chain of ancestors, a bloodline lasting thousands of years, and you're going to let it sputter to a halt to do what? Backpack through Europe? Play video games? Spend 40 years 'finding yourself' and die?" Such arguments still do succeed in making me feel bad)

I’d say right back, “I am the product of hundreds of generations of collectively made bad choices that were the results of other bad choices. I will be the first to do what hundreds of my ancestors could not: I will be the one to kill off my bloodline.”

It's pretty unlikely that any one person can kill off their entire fucking bloodline anyway. If you have 0 first, second, or third cousins you are in a tremendously small minority of the world population. SOME of those people will have reproduced.

Well, you kill off your bloodline if "your bloodline" includes everyone up to your own parents, that's kind of the point

I mean, i guess, but that's an extremely narrow definition.

That is kinda how most people conceptualize it, even though it’s obviously nonsensical
