Kind of, it was meant to sell more tires but they also realized they were filling a need. Up til then ppl stayed local to their towns, & didn't know what was in places they now could travel to with the car. The guide gave them destinations & as well as way points.

Do you know why Michelin only does reviews in certain cities? Or how those cities are picked? Philly for example has a thriving food scene, but because Michelin doesn't publish a guidebook for PA, restaurants there are ineligible for stars regardless of their quality.

I don't know the details of their system - I do know that they're really secretive about it and they claim that it's really rigorous, which is why it's so controversial
