I legitimately don't really understand how this happened other than that Sia has been really willing to work in film and TV to write songs for shows and act in cameos in them and stuff And I guess that's all networking in the long run

The longer you can afford to develop something for free, not needing to get it made or the money, the better off you are.

and it' not that they are untalented. Ari Aster grew up with the head of A24, Panos Cosmatos is the son of a famous director, Refn's dad was an editor I believe? The list is endless, even now with department heads.

Get Out is under Five mil or so, and Scream was 15, and that's just kids running around houses too. That's a huge gap in budget when adjusted for time/inflation. Lots of working for free/cheap.

Looking at the press about Sia doing this movie is kind of obnoxious honestly She didn't write the screenplay by herself, she had a co-writer, to whom she apparently dictated much of the script while acting it out

Talking about all this shit about how physical she is and how she always writes songs the same way and she can't stand to sit at a desk with a computer "I've never learned how to use Final Draft, I don't have the patience" Well good for you lady

I guess if all of us had someone we could pay to just like follow us around and laboriously use that cumbersome technology to translate our cool spontaneous ideas into a written format that can be submitted to a studio a lot more of us would also be genius screenwriters

I'm being salty about her getting this opportunity mostly because the finished product is so offensive But, you know, that's allowed
