The thing about science fiction "blasters" is that irl it'd be incredibly difficult to make a handheld energy weapon that works as well as a gun But then, sci-fi guns usually work just like real guns and not at all like lasers anyway So you can just pretend that's what they arehttps://twitter.com/JamesSACorey/status/1330075871152119808 …

The idea of holding a laser pointer on someone until they catch fire like a kid frying ants with a magnifying glass seems cool but watching someone do it doesn't look that cool

Yeah. The audio visual language for guns is very well established. Most sci fi just references it with some science fiction bells and whistles.

Its not necessarily that they are lazy or anything, but reestablishing an audio visual language for a sci fi weapon system . Its usually not worth the effort. Light sabers in star wars are an example of them actually taking the time to do this.

Star Trek's phasers have historically been pretty good at showing what firing a "laser" would look like ...except for the bit where it has a "stun" setting

This is why while neat Mass effect shooting was inherently terrible by virtue your best strategy was slowly melt people behind cover while you wait for your cool down. So future game just made ME weapon just act more like guns in other video game and got better for it.
