the optics of that tweet were bad, but over 50% of obama's transition was funded through donations too, it's pretty common and we're only noticing it now because all this other shit is going on

Tbf the government's health plan would've largely paid for everything had Joe himself gotten cancer as VP, or had Beau gotten cancer as Delaware AG (which he actually had, in 2013, only for it to enter remission)

The problem is Beau chose not to run for reelection as AG in 2014, in preparation for a gubernatorial run in 2016 So when the cancer came back in 2015 he was in that dreaded position of being a private citizen in an "employment gap"
