The slow realization that I actually did grow up to be surrounded by annoying couples where all they talk about is the husband sanding and varnishing his deck and the wife weeding her chrysanthemum beds only now it's worse because these things don't actually physically exist

If it helps at all in terms of tracing backwards the conversation started off as being about people who go “I do the cottage kind of gaming /and that makes me morally better than you/“? And that context/subtext might be eroding with successive layers of QTs

Yeah, the moral superiority element was very much the main point of the original thread, and as a huge fan of Animal Crossing who also just plays it to relax after a long day at work that aspect of its fandom has never sat well with me.

Lol the thing is if I got Animal Crossing "just to hang out with people" I would still have a completely bare, default, tiny house months after getting the game and, just as in real life, the people I was there to hang out with would judge me for it
