Always liked the SNL alternate ending where he turns his rage and despair outward and ends up leading a lynch mob to kill Mr Potter

One of the darkest movies ever made.

Agreed, many gloss over it as "George gets to see what the world would be like with out him and learns that he really had a wonderful life," and that misses out on why it's such a happy ending for him. He was in the depths of despair and had lost his faith.

I guess I watched this later than usual but I remember the abuse and misery fine. It’s why the ending is so cathartic.

Jimmy Stewart gives an all-time great performance which makes it work. Opening sequence was cobbled together to fix the film tonally in editing. Lot of still images and unused establishing shots, including one where you can just see George Bailey running through town at the end.

As a film academic this news article makes me so mad. It's a Wonderful Life is a film that has been academically disseminated many times and is an important part of film scholarship. These articles acting like they're discovering it for the first time are irritating

I'm just waiting for someone to write the ultimate "For a Christmas movie, Die Hard is really pretty violent" article for click bait purposes

One of the most Christian films ever made, in which God personally cares for each of His children to the extent He intercedes directly with a dedicated angel. By the end of the film, George Bailey KNOWS there is a God who loves him personally. Few Hollywood films go so far.
