Trump didn't even implement a *bad* response to COVID, which he likely could have done, like W did with the PATRIOT Act and the Global War on Terror He just did *nothing*, and made it *really obvious to everyone* he was doing nothing

Disasters tend to lower the bar tremendously for leaders and let them get away with all kinds of shit, traumatized people lose their judgment and become desperate for leadership and reassurance You just have to actually pretend you fucking care

COVID-19 ended up being Team Trump's Katrina, only it's an even worse self-inflicted wound because they weren't betting on it just happening to a part of the country everyone else didn't care about (like they did with Maria) They let it happen to the whole country at once

What's really striking is how Team Trump was in denial of that very fact Like they kept on repeating the talking point that COVID-19 was a "blue state" problem caused by "blue state mismanagement" any time anyone challenged them

Seriously, he could have gotten the GOP to pass a couple more rounds of relief checks with his signature on them and coasted to reelection.
-
A few? If he had gotten one more piddly $1,200 check passed in October or so he probably doesn't lose any states he won in 2016.

Rudy was a showboat on 9/11. I could not understand everyone’s blind eye to that when it was happening.

Do we understand now that DJT was entertained by the death of people he considered worthless? And still it not enough he will watch more die until he is out of office.

We often imagine otherwise decent people knowingly exploiting loopholes, but I think it's true that no one does things they know are bad, so the people who do exploit them are the ones who believe they're doing a good thing. And to do that, you really have to be incompetent.

No one does something they know is bad, but people are capable of making themselves believe anything at all is okay; the worse the thing is, the weirder and more otherwise incompetent the person has to become to achieve this. That just won't stop them.
