I think there's also an element of "Why aren't you helping with something that benefits ME instead?" Generally, if they own a house, they wouldn't complain about mortgage relief, if they have kids, they're fine with child tax credits, if they have credit card bills, CC relief...

A lot of people think that just because they suffered, current and future generations should suffer. At its heart that argument is flawed. Policy decisions shouldn't be made based on jealousy.
